Ripples in the cosmic background are compared to ripples in a fluid, that travel outwards from a source. The cosmic ripples form the birth of the universe and lead us to wonder how the universe began and why do we exist?. Islamic lusterware produced between the 9th and the 14th centuries forms the key visual element in almost all of Salma’s paintings. She uses vegetal patterns and designs, merges and melts them to recreate imagery in various lusters with pieces and bits of calligraphy.
